Hi all,
I've burned about a million coasters last night trying to get my nLite boot CD to load on my new Intel Quadcore pc. It will see the hard drive and allow me to setup/format the partition, but the install stops when it tries to copy files to the hard drive. I've checked out various tutorials on the web about making a bootable ISO, and even bought Nero 8 to make a bootable CD. Can someone please explain the correct way to do this using ISO Buster, nLite, and Nero Burning Rom? Thanks in advance! bugleboy |

Is that an SP1 or older pre-SP1 copy of XP? It wasn't long after SP2 first came out I simply grabbed a second OEM copy with it included to save the hassle. You should be able to simply install SP2 separately by saving a redistributable copy to the drive. Besides an MS developers link you can download the 266mb SP2 directly at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-SP2-RTM.shtml
An iso image is similar to a zip file in the sense that you can open it up to add or remove files from it at any time. But the problem may be something else there. Lately when attempting repair installs on two systems and then a full on one the drives themselves were found bad. Windows would lock then the repair followed by a regular full install attempt. The drives there could see partitions deleted and files recovered when slaved. But try to get Windows running again or eventually deleting the primary on one to see another created? no way! One drive was more then 4yrs. old explaining wear + tear while the other was more recent. In other words it could be something besides the optical drive even or fribie contest you had going there.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, it is a pre-SP1copy. I ended up installing it and downloading all the updates and creating a restore point once I had a virgin install with all my drivers. I think I'll look into ghosting the partition and backing that up somehow. Thanks again. |

You can manually create additional restore points by opeing the restore feature but choosing the create one now option there. Setpoint by EasyDesk Software was one program sold for XP where you could create a desktop shortcut for that as well as seeing that program automatically create one every time you started the system up.
For SP2 download the full 266mb service pack and even burn it to a cd-r in case the drive goes on you. That will save on download time later unless you end up buying a new disk with that included. Just about everything new now requires SP2 anyways if it runs on XP.
