8800GT 256MB vs. 3850 256MB vs. 3850 512MB vs. 3870

I'm in the market now, and I'm considering all of the above. I will be using them at 1680x1050 so I want to know how they will fare. How will the above do gaming at this resolution, and how do they compare?

The 256mb 8800gt would be the best overall performer from that list.. then the 3870, 3850, etc. 256mb of VRAM is really showing it's age however, and the resolution you're planning on gaming on will be a bit too much for this version. You'll see the low VRAM bottlenecking the GPU in certain games.. Keep an eye out for deals on the 512MB version, or maybe even a 512Mb version of the 3870, the extra RAM is becoming a must.

So 8800GT would be better than a 3870 (BTW, all 3870's are 512MB), even at this resolution? And would there be a considerable difference between the 3850 512 and the 8800 256?

i think the 3870 would be better because of its Vram, but thats just me

If it was the 512MB 8800GT then it would beat all of those cards; although we are on about the 256MB version which will struggle.

I want to go with the 3870 because it supposedly renders better than the 8800GT, only gets a few FPS less, and takes up 2 slots instead of 1 (which I see as an advantage, because it's better cooling and looks like it is pretty hefty.)

I'd go for the 8800GT, It's just as good as it's 512MB brother at the lower res.

the stock cooler on the 3870 is awseome, only with the help of rivatuner to set the fan speed to 50%. Im @ 860/1200 (stock 775/1126)

Bios wont let me go above 860, you can flash it to a new unlocked bios if you want extreme...
