You can do alot with 1g. You could go qaud core, but I would stick with dual core, and just get a real tight dual core. I run crysis on my amd 6000 x2, and I have had no problems.

Wont be "Best of the Best" but as said above, you can build a fine system with 1g.

If he can wait a monthish, new CPUs and GFX cards are comming out.
