Default Alzheimer’s disease poll

I have a quick question. It would be greatly appreciated if everyone could answer this truthfully.

My fiance is doing a survey for a statistics class and ran out of time to ask enough people a very simple question. I brought up this forum and how there are a lot of knowledgeable people here and they would be a great group of people to ask this question to. So here it goes...

The question is about Alzheimer’s disease. I imagine all of you have heard about the disease, but how much do you actually know about the disease? I did not realize that you lose control of your bodily functions and that Alzheimer's is a leading cause of death.

Did you know that Alzheimer's disease is fatal? Please be honest.

Thanks!

As well, a family member died of Alzheimer's. My mother was told this and didn't think it was true for years, till someone told her it was (could be) fatal.

Now is it the actual disease that is fatal? Or is it what happens to you while you have the disease that is fatal? Like AIDS for example, it's not necessarily AIDS that is fatal, but the opportunistic infection that accompanies the virus that is fatal, since it weakens your immune system.

I guess maybe a better question is... does Alzheimer's cause death, or does it lead to death?

Tbh mate, i never really thought about it that much to realize. I've heard of the disease and of some of the things it can do to you but if i really thought about it, i would probably have thought that it could kill you!

I work in medicine and have worked in deparments linked to Neurodegenerative diseases so I knew it was fatal.

It can be quite a surprise to people when you mention just how high the rates are for it, its generally amongst the 10 leading causes of death in developed countries. Many people just believe that its a disease that leads to dementia and that its all generally linked to the mind. However it does have widespread effects on the body and in all is possibly one of the most distressing things to see a person go through

I've heard of Alzheimer’s and it's quite common for a "joke" to be made regarding elderly people forgetting things, that they have the onset of Alzheimer’s. I did'nt know that it was fatal but thought dementia in the elderly was a symptom called this, whilst suffering from something else.
