Default Wii? Huh?

Ok, WTF is up with the Wii? Why is it so popular? Why are online vendors selling it for $660, and, more importantly, why are people buying it for that much? Is it simply the remotes? Ever since Gamecube, Nintendo has always struck me as the gaming system for the kids, the Xbox and PS2/3 for the grownups. Nintendo has always been more of a cartoon-esque genre with the 50-or-so Mario versions they have to have by now and the cutesly graphics. Can anyone shed some light?

its probably due to the remotes. its the main reason i want a wii.

come on now, how can you say it wouldn't be fun playing an action game and actually doing the stuff to make your character do it? running around in a sword fighting game slashing enemies or playing RE and doing the stuff to shoot the zombies etc.

not only is it a change from the standard video game controller thats been around for ages, its also something that provides exercise. hmm...exercising WHILE playing a video game, how much better could it get? which is another reason i want one, i'm fat and too lazy to exercise when i could be gaming

Well the reason its so expensive now is because there are still lines just to get them. Nintendo has said that it won't be able to fill holiday demands. It surprising that months after a system has been released there is still a high demand

If you play it then you will know. It feels right and its a hell of a lot of fun especially with friends. It even comes with a game(Wii Sports)so you you can start having fun right out of the box. I must say Nintendo did it right the reason they are still sold out it because they made a fun cheap and easy to use console.

the wii is wiping the floor with the other consoles at the moment, and yes it is hard to understand why. that is, until you play one for the first time. the xbox 360 and ps3 are nice sure, both are quality systems blah blah but neither one is very innovative IMO. the wii on the other hand is something that feels completely new and fresh. once you play a good wii game that makes good use of the controllers, you will not want to go back to the other systems. and it costs a shit ton less than the others

You want to know why it's so popular? Because my grandmother can play it. It's not hard to explain to a 70 year old how to bowl... you move your arm back, then forward.

Hand my grandmother an xbox controller, and tell her to go play halo and she won't know what the hell to do. "What? I move with this stick, and look with this one?" - Today's consoles are very confusing for people who aren't techno savy, for people who have a hard time doing multiple things at once, and for those people it's not worth the headache.

Nintendo Wii is great because anyone can do it. I bowled with my 8 year old cousin the other day and she beat me! Throw Halo into my xbox and she won't know how to move forward 1 step.

It's a system for everyone... that's why it's so great. I have Wii.... and I was in college when my mom bought it. She didn't buy it for me, she bought it for herself. How many consoles have your parents bought for themselves to play?
