Default Help needed, difficulties in solving low disk space

Hello, i am completely new to computers and keep getting a low disk space warning on my laptop.

I have uninstalled several programs through add/remove programs but its only cleared 1GB of space ( this includes 3 games - football manager, monopoly, chessmaster, veoh, divx, 4od, pokerstars etc.). I have a 60GB hard drive, with 53 GB usuable i believe and have apparently used 52GB of this. Despite getting rid of all these programs it has only cleared 1GB.

I have no games, movies or pictures on my laptop.
I basically only have itunes ( takes up 15GB of space) and documents which total about (5GB).

I have tried to defragment, but it says i need 15% free space for this to run effectively - i can only get up to 2%, but i dont know what else to delete. How much GB can i realistically expect a defragmentation to clear up space?

Please can you help me find a solution to my problem.

I have heard something about ccleaner and registry cleaners but i do not understand the concept of these.

Download CCleaner and install it. The run it and press the Analyze button. It will tell you how much space it can free up, then press the Run Cleaner button and it will free up that space.

Add & Remove Programs. If that doesn't show whats taking it up, probably a non-program file.

I tried the add/remove programs my largest file was 1,666 KB which i deleted,
and now my largest file is around 400KB, but in total all my programs add to about 2GB in that list. Thanks for all the advice
