Unhappy sp2 will not install properly on xp!

I have tried installing service pack 2 on my laptop via disc and the web. Both times i have had the black screen at start up asking if i want to "start at last good configuration" "start in safe mode" etc etc.

What is going on, am i at risk by not having sp2? How the hell can i install it!!!

Each time i have had to do a system restore to get back to normal and now i dare not get any microsoft updates incase it downloads the bloody thing again!

When you reinstall Windows fresh, your data will be erased, so you will need to back it up before you do that.

you can re-install winxp in repair mode without reformatting your hard-disk. There's a REPAIR option when you install it. Of course to be sure coz you might reformat your hard disk, make back-up of your files.

try the SP2 again and if that does not work, try checking your computer for virus it might be infected.
