Default Vista 64Bit with 4GB of DDR2 800

My setups are

Q6600
2x WD500GB Raid 0
4GB DDR2 800 (maybe 2GB)?

Should i go with the Vista 64bit and get 4GB of DDR2 800? or should I stay with the XP and get 2GB of DDr2 800?

I use the system for video encoding most of the time at the back ground wile i do other things.

thank you.

No, because I don't have a Copy of the 64bit version.

but I might just get one. and change to vista later on if the SP1 is any good.

Have you used it before? how is it compare to the 32bit version? I don't hear many people use the 64bit version of xp very much.

If you already have XP and are asking if you should but a new OS to support 4GB of RAM, I don't see the need as of now, although you will need to eventually.

I've used XP pro x64 before and it ran everything fine, the only thing is since the OS isn't to popular, many smaller companies don't have drivers available for it. Although major manufacturers such as ATI, nVidia, Intel, Asus, MSI, Creative, Logitech, etc do.

so the problem with the x64 xp is the drivers for the hardware? or is it software too?

how many GB of RAM will the xp 32 recognize? what i have is 2x2GB dual channels? if it does not recognize all 4GBs will it damage the RAM? I don't think it will but i want to make sure.

It should be find when the time comes to change to vista right?

thanks 0mega, your are on almost all of my question threads. really helpfully. ^^

It's mainly the hardware, since most games/apps will still run on XP x64.

XP x86 (32 Bit) usually supports around 3-3.2GB, but can vary. You can have 4GB installed but it won't damage the RAM at all.

I will have to check to see if there is driver for my memory card reader, if there is i will go x64 since i use it allot to transfer encoded videos to my PMP. EDIT: if there is driver for my PMP too.

If not I will have to look deeper into vista 64 and xp 32.
