Default Software for Dual Monitors

My dad got a 22" Widescreen monitor for Christmas and has it set-up as in a dual monitor configuration on his laptop using just the windows display options.

What are the options for additional software so he can customize desktops, make it easier to add and remove the extra monitor, and control where things like powerpoint slideshows are displayed? I have dual monitors on my computer, but I just use the software that came with the NVidia card, which I'm assuming won't work on his hp notebook.

One 3rd software found sometime back for setting up dual displays is called Ultramon. While your own pc has the NVidia desktop manager for using two monitor off of one card a laptop has it's own buildin lcd display where you then have to configure a second display through the vga port. GIve that a look at http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/
