One of my colleagues been getting NSIS error and am getting really tired of it.
From the web, most sites told me to do a scan, clear temp, disable antivirus, clear cache and whatnot, i did all those including checkdisk. but it doesn't work. am already backing up to format (it needed a format anyways) ![]() now for the future references, what is a common fix for nsis ? edit : i didn't go to command prompt to do the /ncrc thingy but is that really needed ?

The first thing to know there is what installer was being run when that appeared. A corrupted installer will see that message generated. For the command at the Run prompt one short blog with comments also seen states:
"The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus. You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy. It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)." http://www.iis-aid.com/forums/intern...ler/nsis_error Besides seeing a ton of threads about that error over the last few years it's one of those "thread caught in infinite loop" type errors where no one has an exact solution available.

In that case it could be the Windows Installer Package itself that has become corrupt, and it would have been worth reinstalling it.

Another possible explaination for a corrupt install could also be due to not being the original file as seen at the site. For verifying that the download is what it's supposed to be in the event someone tampered with the site or you got hit with a malware. This is called the HashTab shell extension for all versions of Windows.
"HashTab is a Windows shell extension which adds a tab called "File Hashes" to the Windows Explorer file properties. The tab contains the MD5, SHA1 and CRC-32 file hashes. These are common hashes that are used to verify the integrity and authenticity of files. Many download sites list the MD5 hash along with the download link. The HashTab makes it very simple for Windows users to check these hashes on any file on the system without using external tools." http://beeblebrox.org/hashtab/ For strange errors after downloading anything new that's a good tool to be prepated with. It works with Vista as well as previous versions. The real pain after seeing a bad install is manually trying to track down and remove only those specific entries an installer puts on. Once verified a fresh copy might probably correct what the first saw there like ceewi1 is referring to. The new entries simply would overwrite the bad.

Are you sure your friend's PC is 100% clean? There is one cute program called w32.supernova ( virus hehe ), that is known to do this.
Anyways, there's a cure of course, please make him somehow get this program http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Ret...y/EXEfix08.com That's EXEFix, and it's extension is .com After he has repaired what he had to, not sure will he still be able to open ALL Executables. So, do this : Start > Run > type scanregw /fix and click OK (notice the space between the w and /). That should make it all work. Please notify me for the results. Curious :-)

I think I mentioned that in post. ExeFix will definetely fix all that problems with loading .exe files. Maybe I'm a bit stupid, but now as you are talking about you and your friend, do both of you have the same problem?
Btw, does your friend have 2 antivirus programs? You mentioned Norton and Nod32, not good when together.
