Default Mac external enclosure

I just recently purchased a external enclosure for my Macbook (the new one) and a 300GB hdd to put in it. The external enclosure is a coolmax model:HD-389-U2 and the HDD is a Maxtor ATA/100 Internal Hard drive. They are both compatible for Mac. I put the drive into the enclosure and plugged it in... it turns on but does not show up on Mac. I am using OS X Leopard.

Thanks,
Corbin
