Then make sure that you took all the protective coatings off the CPU and HSF.
okay, I am sure we plugged in the 4pin connector, we took off the coatings (there wern't any).

And about the power supply, I might try his power supply in my custom built comp to make sure it is working.

I am drummeralec's friend helping him with his comp by the way .
That test is to bypass the power switch on the case, if it fires up it means the case power switch is bad. To your question about the wrong pins, sometimes people will plug the case power switch by mistake to the wrong pins on the board, like to the reset/SW or the PWR/LCD and the board wont fire up

YEA!!!

thank you all for your support... but i got it working..

turns out it was one of those stupid human moments.

It was tha standoffs for the mother board. it was shorting out because the standoffs were not in the right place. i have the antec 900 case witch was built for ATX motherboard, but i was using a MICRO ATX motherboard, so the standofs were not directly in the right place and it was somthing i locked over when trying to build it in a short time period.... THANKS ANYWAY!!!

P.S. does thermal grease really matter? i have some and have ben using it, but really, what does it do?

I figured it would be the stand offs...i had the same issue when i built my PC. And thermal paste does matter, it helps with the heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink. The stock thermal pad that comes with the cpu cooler should be sufficient though, unless you plan on ocing, then i guess you can remove it and add your own.

Yeap, what was my first question in post 2. As far as compond if your not overclocking the stock stuff will work fine.

Thermal compound/paste/grease basically fills up the spaces left in between the heatsink and the CPU... not everything is flat...
