how to reinstall window...

i have reformat my pc...(my other pc)

n i want to install Window 98...but i have lost the cd boot...

but i have already download the bootdisk frm bootdisk.com

n i already create a bootdisk in a diskette..

but when i insert the diskette...it says this...

"invalid system disk"
"replace the disk, and then press any key"

why is that happening?

did download wrong bootdisk?

i've already change the boot sequences starting by drive A...

help me ASAP please....

Apparently the boot floppy wasn't prepared correctly to see it be a bootable disk. Simply copying files onto it makes it a data disk not a startup disk you will need in order to use fdisk for creating the primary if needed and the format.com file for seeing the new primary formatted and ready for use.

If you are trying to install 98 on a drive over 64gb in size you will also want to review and download information and patch for the updated version of the FDisk tool at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=263044 The following is seen at boodisk.com.

No problem! I spend enough time seeing 98 restored and reinstalled on several systems in those days!

First knowing the actual size of the hard drive 98 will go on does help if you are planning only one single primary partition. The basic FDisk utility first seen on the 98 startup floppy that came along with the retail version of 98 was a far cry from seeing any worth on the drives that suddenly saw a sudden increase in capacity in just a short time.

Originally that less then 20gb while in theory 98 supported upto 2tb on a single partition. The updated version of FDisk later released by Microsoft then supported upto 64gb while drive manufacturers were then seeing utilities like WD's DrFat32 where you could then create and format a 250gb ide drive as well as a 2.5gb model.

How's that so far?

i don't know what is primary patition,actual size of the hard drive 98,fdisk,ide drive,etc.....

You might want to take it to someone there who can fully explain what is needed and also see 98 up and running again if they have experience at installing operating systems and softwares as well. This would be the first step.

A single primary partition is the entire amount of drive space available being seen as one logical type drive usually known as the C drive for Windows. Mutiple partitions are sections separate from one another each seeing a different drive letter. One example is the drive with Windows seeing two not one partitions with C for Window and programs while the D may be used for simply storing files and backing things on C up there.

Windows 98 was usually installed by one of two methods. 1)While running an older version of Windows like 95 the setup.exe file on the install cd was started by typing a command at the Run command line like D:\setup.exe and clicking the ok button or pressing the enter/return key to see the installer start.

The 2) method requires booting the system with a floppy disk. On many old system that would be with a 5.15" type 1.2mb floppy while newer machines generally saw the now standard 3.5" floppy drive. In some cases you could even boot with the install disk itself and see the installer startup. Usually those were branded recovery disks not a full install version or upgrade from previous version type.

For replacing an existing copy of Windows namely 3.1 or 95 the Fat15 primary partition could still be used. For a brand new drve or seeing Fat32 used you then had to first partition and format or delete the existing Fat16 primary and create a new Fat32 to see that formatted and ready for use. Ready for use means ready for storing files like a second drive or to see the most often reason the installation of Windows 98.

but now...my pc (i'm using it now)
i don't have java installed in my pc...
so i want to install it...
but when i have installed it..it ask me to refreshed the browser...
i already refreshed it and infact...i restart the pc....
but when i check if the java has installed by opening limewire (it needs java runtime environment as u know)
it says this...

"lime wire need java runtime environment 5 or higher"
(sumthing like that)

why is that?

Your cousin has had experience installing Windows on previous occasions making like a little easier for you there! You should be taking notes while the information seen on each install screen takes you through the installation easier then learning different ways of partitioning and formatting.

But that's not that difficult to learn once you have someone that can be present to coach you at first. The rest all of us learn by working directly on systems. Don't feel bad since even those that are bookwise still need "hands on" type experience as well.
