Default tuner card question

I bought a "Super Digital TV Capture" card (cheap tuner card) to toy with. It works with S-video and composite, but I can not get it to work with tv in (regular F type) from my receiver to the card. I have it on the correct channel that my output from the receiver is on. I have it on NTSC_M, but have tried the other settings with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions to get this up and running off of the F connector? By the way, the same receiver hooked to a tv works fine on channel 3.
Did I mess up buying the cheap card?
thanks for any help.

With a direct patch to basic cable as well as analog vhs I found that even with a good name brand you have to go with what will be detected. With both s-video and composite being displayed patching through a vcr may be your option there to see the signal recognised.

Here I have the basic cable connection going to a vcd where the output is patched to the tuner card for viewing live or patching an analog through it for display on the pc. A digiral model has to go direct into the card. Output from the pci device into a tv often won't work since the tv may not be detected by the card's own software.

thanks for the response.
It does work fine if coming from the receiver directly to the tv. Only the input on the F connector going into the card isn't working with the same receiver sending the signal.
Appreciate the help.

Here when using the 75ohm vcr cable from the vcr out to the tuner card NADA on any picture despite trying the lower channels commonly for VHF. Yet the composite RCA type plus running from the composite output sees great results.

This has been seen on more then the tuner card now in use but also pci video capture cards without any tuner used on older builds. One reason for seeing the same now I can suspect would be the tv group not being setup for the PVR to record on a timer but simply manually starting a capture when another device like camcorder is patch to the vcr.

Channels viewed like live news is simply selected by the vcr's own tuner via cable tv where that goes through the basic 125 channels there. The card fails to detect the incoming signal explaining that one. You may be eeeing the same there.

Thanks again. Guess I'll just have to use the S-video or composite.
Appreciate the help.

I've been stuck here with different cards patching things by way of composite for about 5-6yrs. at this point. The first however where strictly capture only while the last build and the one in use now saw tuner cards go in. For the time being you should be ok.

Digital video input will almost be a mandate in 2009 however when the television industry will see a major overhaul there however. Here I tried a few times to patch S-Video out to a tv closeby getting nowhere in the attempt to clone the display for both the lcd in use and to see some feed as an option for the av in on the tv set. no go!

I guess we are both kind of stuck trying to get a direct signal to be seen while adding something like a vcr inline for composite allows the tuner to be configured as well as the PVR program included. Direct off cable or from the cable box sadly lacks while an intermediary type device seems to fill the gap there. It still stinks while it works!
