Unhappy Q6600 Running on Only 2 Cores?

I just replaced my E6320 with a Q6600. My system is running much slower than I expected. (I've run a Q6600 before, and it was very fast.) It appears to be running on only 2 cores. Task Manager shows only two processors. CPUZ shows 2 cores, and Device Manager shows only two E6320s (my old processor). I thought it would automatically recognize the new hardware and require me to do nothing. Do I need to uninstall the old CPU from the Device Manager? Thanks!

Is your motherboard compatable with quad cores? What does it say in the bios?

Are you sure it was the core 2 quad q6600 and not the core 2 duo q6600? If you are using xp, have you installed the latest service pack?

He means E6600 in terms of the Core 2 Duo

My motherboard is an EVGA 650i Ultra. I upgraded to the latest BIOS. It should work just fine.

It is a Q6600. I'm confident of that.

The Q6600 is a G0, but the guy from EVGA assured me that it should work fine with the latest BIOS.

I uninstalled the E6320 from Device Manager, and now it shows Q6600 in the Device Manager, but still only two cores.

This is very weird. Any ideas what else I can try?

This guy seems to have had the same problem: http://tinyurl.com/337aw6.

You could backup your stuff and attempt a fresh install of windows?

You could try and download a live cd of linux and see if it detects all four cores. If it does then its a problem with windows, if it doesnt it is a problem with your mobo or processor.

O btw, the install cd is also a live cd.
