If you go vista, go ultimate. I have had very few issues as opposed to my sister who runs home premium and runs into issues weekly.

What do you mean final release, it's finished, its in the shops, what more do you think is coming...? Microsoft even have SP1 coming out soon for vista, I'd say that's pretty final..

I tell you what, stop being a fanatic who jumps on the bandwagon of what everyone else TELLS you in a forum and actually USE the OS.... 95% of these "vista flaws" are rectifiable through settings and preferences, and a lot of them are caused through plain user ignorance.

I'm not having a go at you in particualr, im moaning at the entire culture of people hanging on the words of others even though they haven't used it... it's the whole "oh, if he said it it must be true, let's go and preach that to other people"

I wish XP would be the NOW until the next OS comes out. I just like it far more than Vista.

I run both OS's and perfer Vista , the only reason I keep XP is to play my older games that won't run on Vista and some older software. Other than that Vista Home Premium 64bit runs without any problems at all.

Oh cool, my favorite topic AGAIN!

Sorry to break this to you, but Vista is not the future. Just like ME was not the future when it came out.

Get it? Vista=ME

Seriously though, Microsoft has pissed off way to many people with Vista. Video card manufactures are even ignoring support for vista. They came out with some half hearted drivers for Vista, but they come out faster with XP drivers than they do for Vista.

They are pissed about the way Microsoft has demanded they change every thing they do to suit Microsoft. So they are dragging their feet to shoot down vista.

Besides the fact that no one wants to throw away their peripherals (printers and such) just to use an OS that is in it's infant stages. Maybe in a couple of years Vista will be a stable platform for the masses, but that will be just short of when Microsoft comes out with its "newest" OS.

XP is just plain stable right now, yes it took a few years for it to become so, but it is.

lol, guys relax. lets help the OP with information he needs, this is not a debate.
My pc in my sig (home) is vista capable but due to the kind of work i do or software i use, i can't use Vista.
So to the OP, sit down and take a brief look at what you need or will not need if you're gonna use vista, do a thorough check. check google about vista certified AV's and software.
Then decide if it's Xp or vista.
Or better yet just dual-boot.

cheers

i think u should get XP. i personally prefer it because i download all my cracked software and stuff, and most of it doesnt work on Vista. Also ive been hearing that Vista is filled with bugs. And XP is better because it could really use the 2g of ram u got. Vista , itself, is recommended to have 2gb. i tink gaming would be better in Vista though. and the Aero desktop is annoying.

I prefer XP instead of Vista. XP is considerably faster while Vista is resorce consuming. Vista runs slowly even on 2 Ghz with 1 Gb RAM.
But in fact I'm sure that time will come and everybody will switch to Vista from XP as everybody switched from Windows 2000 to XP few years ago. Progress is inevitable!
