Question Problem with XP restore

Hey
I was wondering if you can help me out. My buddy just phoned and ask what the problem with his computer might be.

Here is what is happening, he restored he system and reinstalled windows. But for some reason now. It wont connect to the internet and the stand by option is not available. I told him to reinstall it again and still has the same problem. He has done this many times with no problems until now.

I know the problem could be simple fix, but I am no where near as good with computer as most people are on here. So do any of you people have an idea of what he can do.

Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Once you reinstall Windows you also have to setup the ISP's assigned user name and password in the new account created in OE or Mozilla's Thunderbird. The first thing however is installing the needed drivers/software for the modem, nik card, or means of connecting online followed by the account information.

For the Windows problems being persistent that sounds like repeat bad installs maybe with a scratched up or finger smudged not being read fully and seeing incomplete copies of setup files going onto the drive. The optical drive(cd or dvd) could also need to see a good lens cleaner used there. The last resort is reformatting the existing primary or deletion to see a brand new one see a clean install from scratch.

He probable just needs to install drivers for his LAN or dial up modem card.

It sounds like something simple there possibly first seeing a glitch when installing Windows followed by a failed install of the drivers/software for the ISP connection. You would be surprised how many times one lame driver can get knocked out needing to be refreshed depending on the method of connection and hardware involved.

I know that routine well from the old 98 days and usb type adapters for dsl service. One friend here calls regualarly when he has to reboot in order to get back online if he is off for a perioud of time running an app or game. When going to his home page "IE cannot find page" restart system time again!

That's a great start for the new year correct?!

A bad install can happen at times if you leave finger marks on a disk or some file doesn't get copied fully to the drive. Eventually you get just right and everything works out for you.
