Default Backing up – what is the most reliable method ?

For backing up my computer. I would like to find out

What is the most reliable method of backing up a computer between an external hard drive or a Flash drive ?

Also does anyone know how reliable the make “TONE” is ?

External - If you don't drop it.

Flash - If you don't place it in your pants then throw that into the washer.

Washed a couple of my flash drives and they still worked. I guess, I got lucky!!!

I usually back everything up on an external hardrive.
The usually I'll back up the important information on DVD.
Thats usually the safest route to go.

watching an external HDD fall is about the worst things a computer enthusiast can witness. It happened to a friend of mine. He watched 500GB of company data go bye bye.
