Red face Windows Vista Hibernate

Happy New Year 2008... I have bought a laptop with Windows Vista, but anytime that I turn it on, the hibernate screen appears and do not let me use the computer, it just stays "hibernating". What can I do?

If it was just purchased lately bring back in to the dealer under warranty. Obviously there was a problem with the preinstalled copy of Windows or you may be seeing a defect of some type. The thing to do there however would be to let them worry about seeing that corrected or replacing a bad portable unit. It's probably one small glitch in the preinstalled Windows but that's their headache!

Default It wasn't like that in the beginning

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to use the warranty as my last resource, let me tell you that the problem appears one week after I bought it. I've used the notebook and it's very weird. So any other tip will be good.

Mash buttons.

Seriously, you could have a bear eat the keyboard and it wouldnt come out of hibernation. I didnt notice the menu next to the power button when I booted vista for the first time, so I thought there was something wrong when the monitor got no signal and the computer kept running

Gogey just made one good observation about the initial setup you go through with any new prebuild or laptop. When first setting up Vista you have to create a power profile rather then seeing the old XP and earlier power options where you can totally disable hibernation in just a quick visit into the power options in the control panel.

Review the manual there for setup proceedures along with seeing if you can get the F8 boot menu to appear at startup. If you can get into safe mode you should be able to create a new power profile seeing the hibernation mode left out of it. Also you can get into where you set the system and drives to never go into standby after so many minutes.

Your last option of course to simply things is have the dealer or vendor look it over to see if it's something else. That way your warranty remains intact. This way they have to deal with any headaches.

Warranty? WTF? The best thing you could do is ignore everything that guy tells you, especially if he told you it was warranty.

The reason it does it is because it didn't go into hibernation properly. Set the laptop to hibernate when you close the lid and that should do it.
