Might check eBay... I've got a couple of copies there for $60 to $70, and that was before Vista was released. Just make sure it's a reliable seller and that you're bidding on a new, unopened, unregistered copy.

Most of the media players have either Windows or Apple in mind there. Linux is based on a platform seen long before all the media players and usb devices/ports came into being a typical PC item. XP/SP2 or higher if not just XP/SP2 being seen there.

Some things will not run in Vista requiring an updated version of the software. The same applies to players like Cyberlink's PowerDVD as well. The one thing that always seems to prevail when any new version of Windows comes out however is what? PC games! I run a few old 98-XP compatible games on Vista too. For all the other retail programs you buy? "new versions required!"

I play mp3 files on my Linux Ubuntu all the time. I have also downloaded video clips from my digital camera and I can watch them as well with my Linux Operating System.

If the camcorder comes with software included that would MS seen there requiring XP/SP2 and not suitable for Linux. Different distros are now offering support for various things being an open source OS. But that doesn't mean just anything will still run there.
