Default What CPU?

Hi,
I'm in need of a bit of advice and would appreciate any help. I'm looking to build a new system (pretty quickly) after my old Socket A motherboard finally went. I am an AMD fan and have no interest in Intel (sorry Intel fans) and am also quite keen in gaming. So I want to build a pretty quick new system, the only thing is I'm not sure which CPU to get. I've decided to either get the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition or the AMD Phenom 9600, but which one would be better?

Thankyou
Gareth

AMD have bug for Phenom. Not worth buying until they fix it.

you're contradicting yourself. You are keen on gaming yet you aren't considering Intel's Core 2 Duos as an option

It turnes out the bug in the L3 on the Phenom was way over blown. Its only been duplicated in the Lab, never happed in a real life system on a Desktop or Server. Hard choice betwwn the 6400 and 9600. I would probably go for the 189 buck Phenom 9500 and overclock it some, theres not but a 100 MHZ between them. If you do go for the 9600 get the unlocked Black Edition.

There's a great power in words, if you don't hitch too many of them together.

The photo of the Phenom Socket on your site is not a AM2+ Phenom socket. It is a Socket 1207 for the Barcelona. The Phenom still uses the same AM2 Socket
AM2/AM2+ socket

The Phenom is not the best choice, the Core 2 Quads are much better performers and overclockers.

There are also loads of negative reviews, especially with the bugs of Phenom that have to do with the computer locking up after heavy load for an extended period of time.

I wouldn't even consider a phenom. I would consider the 6400+ over the phenom. You could wait a little after the 20th for the new dual core intel cpu's to come out and the prices settle down.
