Default understandind cpu speed

Hello all,

I am lost as to how to determine whether a cpu and motherboard are able to run together in terms of the speed they work at.

I am going to be buying this board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130065
A socket AM2 with a fsb of 1000 mhz ( I believe newegg states wrong that it is 800mhz)

and I am buying this processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103228
the am2 6400+ windsor

Now, will this combo work well together? I do not understand matching their speeds at all.

Also, will on board video interfere with me throwing a 8600gt in there?

Thank you all for your help

AMD boards and chips are matched by their little changing HTT (FSB) speed. I believe all AM2 boards and chips are compatible because they all have a 1000MHZ HTT, though as you pointed out, newegg states 800mhz for this board. More than likely it is wrong, but it's possible it supports both 800 and 1000mhz speeds... My S939 does.

Onboard doesn't interfere with anything, the most you may have to do is go into the BIOS and turn it off, when installing a video card.

I really appreciate the help.

So because this board and processor run at the same speed, the board cannot slow the processor down correct?

Correct. MSI has the board listed with a 1000mhz HTT bus speed, looks good.
