Default Windows XP history file?

How do I delete the Windows history file? Or more so where is it? Also will deleting it cause problems with some programs? Why is it even there?

It's all explained here even the answer on your other question; It's recommended to delete the history.

That program is trash, it does not do anything. I just verified that it does not make any attempt to delete the Windows history file. I want to delete it manually but I don’t know where it is. I am not talking about the browser cache or any of that crap. There is a specific file / folder that has a list of every program and file opened and web site on your computer. That’s the file / folder I am looking for.

First of all, the program is working, and worked for me.
However, if you find it 'bad' ok delete it manually. Again, it is explained there. On the link I gave you.

The history is held here C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\History in the index.dat file. You have to allow viewing of hidden files first to navigate there.
Windows won't allow you to delete it and there are two ways
1) In DOS mode
2) Use a program like CCleaner which deletes it on a reboot and it is then remade in a virgin state.
