Red face how to downgrade

So am gonna downgrade my thinkpad.
but i have a tiny problem, the hard drive is SATA, and apparently windowsXP and windows 2000 BSOD'd at the setup screen.
this mean i will need to load the Intel Matrix storage driver, but my laptop does not have floppy drive, nor can i get a USB floppy drive.
Any ways i can downgrade ? without the floppy ?

i tried with a usb but that didn't work.. am thinking of using a linux live cd but i'd probably screw the whole thing !!!
any ideas ?

Yea it will work on pro SP2, you just add what ever drivers you want to to your cd instead of the SP.

oh, another problem.
i was looking here, the part where it says :
Open the INF file in Notepad and copy the PCI identifier string, which is a series of characters beginning with PCIVEN

yeah ive opened my inf, but i don't know which part to copy, can you help if i post the inf ?

edit : ok
i've sorted out the above. now, do i really need to create this so called "WINNT.SIF", cause thats an automation process and i don't want to automate, i can skip right ?

No you have to do a winnt.sif. Try downloading nLite makes the job a little easier.

why do i need do do it ?
from what i understand it automates, but i don't want that. i want to enter my info manually.
and besides i've already loaded the drivers on the cd.
i don't think the winnt.sif file will help, if i boot my thinkpad with the cd and it doesn't work.
but if it really doesn't work , then i will do the winnt.sif thingy

Its alot eaiser with nLite and isobuster. Make you a folder called XP cd and one called Boot. Put your XP cd in and when it loads up exit out of it and start up nLite. Direct nLite to your CD and copy it to the XP cd folder. On the next page direct it to the Sata drivers you saved and it will add them to the XP cd folder, when nLite is finished exit out.
Leave your XP cd in and start up isobuster and open up your XP cd. On the left click on Bootable and on the right copy the .img boot file to the Boot folder you made. Close isobuster and take out your XP cd.

If you have Nero open the burning Rom, pick Boot cd on the left. Under the Boot tab check Image file and direct it to the .img file you saved in the Boot folder. Check Expert setting and set it to No emulation. Then click New at top right. When the page opens find the XP cd folder and open it and drag all the XP files over, its eaiser if you just right click on them and select all and drag all of them at once. After that just hit burn and you will have a bootable XD cd with your drivers.
