I work for a business that has a butler building about 500 ft from it and we can't run CAT5 cable. We are looking into running fiber optic. There is only 1 computer out there that we need to connect. My problem is that I don't really know where to start with this, i've never run fiber optic before. Can someone please tell me what I'm gonna need to run the cable, how do I hook it into our network and how do I hook it into the computer in the butler building.
Thanks |

I can't help you with this other than tell you that our business have another factory about 800 yards away and they installed 2 antennaes doing it by wireless. It is line of sight though.

fiber optic is very sensitive, my friend was running it from his eq to his receiver, and he broke it, i would prolly say stay away from it if at all possible.

If you are connecting two buildings together then by all means go fiber, but if you are only trying to connect one PC in that building with the rest of the network, it would be cheaper and easier to either install an ethernet cable with repeaters, or if thats not possible then setup a wireless bridge.

He said the building is 500 feet away. The maximum distance you can run a cat5 cable I believe is about 350ft
