Hey all, I'm new here so to be safe I putted this new thread in the off topic chat.
For my school,I have to give a presentation in English in front of the whole class about a self chosen subject. So I wrote one, but I'm not sure if I made some mistakes, I hope I didn't ![]() PS if there is a better site where I could ask this could you say so? The presentation is about Windows Vista so I hope it is interesting for you guys. thanx in advance ![]() PRESENTATION: Companies like Microsoft must stop deceiving people Almost a year ago Microsoft introduced a new Operating System, called Windows Vista. This OS is already the … 7th version of Windows since computers began to be quite normal in households, when we don’t count all the server editions and other updates like windows 98se. I’m sure you have heard of most versions, but for them who don’t, I have wrote them all on the …blackboard Windows Vista January 2007 Windows XP October 2001 Windows ME September 2000 Windows 2000 February 2000 Windows 98 June 1998 Windows NT July 1996 Windows 95 August 1995 We must take in mind that the originally Windows XP was released end 2001, but that there have been two major SP. The first SP was released in September 2002 and the second one was released in August 2004. So as you can see, Microsoft comes with a new OS every ..1.5 / 2 years. What exactly is the reason why Microsoft want us to buy a new OS every …2 years? If I look at my own computer history, I must admit that I haven’t used and bought all operating systems. And that’s because some of them where really crap and there was hardly any notable difference. Before Windows XP it wasn’t really important how Windows looked like, more important was, that the OS had a better hardware support and security. With Windows XP, that changed. XP is really better looking than the previous Windows versions and the hardware support is a lot better. All hardware that you can buy nowadays is supported. So what about Windows Vista? Is it as good as Windows XP, or even better? Sadly, but true Windows Vista isn’t really better than XP. Okay, Vista has got a lot of nice eye-candy, but after a few days it isn’t very special anymore. Features like the Aero function are just eye-candy, it is not easier, faster or better, actually it will only slow down your computer. If you compare Windows XP with Vista you can see on the ...blackboard that it is slower than XP. So if you want to have Windows Vista running at the same speed as your old Windows XP, you will have to upgrade your hardware or you will even have to buy a new computer. And what do you get then? A computer that can do exactly the same as your old one and with the same speed, isn’t that fantastic? For the basic user, Windows XP works fine and offers enough features to satisfy most users. E-mail, surfing the Internet and office applications are all possible in Windows XP and Windows Vista won't offer anything more than just eye-candy. I must mention that Microsoft says that Vista is a lot ‘safer’, didn’t they told us exactly the same when they introduced Windows XP? There are always new security lags found or ‘made’. So what do they mean with ‘safer’? The only positive point of Windows Vista is, that it supports more than 3 GB or ram, with XP doesn’t. But that is only interesting for high-end systems and people who really need it, like engineers or a video editor. Most of us are just basic users so I recommend to just stay with Windows XP and do not let Microsoft deceive you. It is just a marketing trick to make more money. Microsoft not only develops Windows operating systems, they are also the developers of Microsoft Office. For MS Office they use the same marketing trick, every 3 years they release a new Office edition which looks better, but is basically just the same old MS Office only with a different skin and some new tools and features that you won't use. By the way, does anyone knows what we can expect in 2020? ………… Windows Retro! Old school style, it will be the same as Windows 95 only with a different name. This was my presentation are there any questions or sugguestions? Last edited by Marten; 01-05-2008 at 02:46 PM. |

If it's the English then apart from a few spelling mistakes and wrong words, it is good.
As for factual then Quote:

Microsoft has some new things, you just gotta glance at it long enough... They have changed the Word 2007 interface to save toolbar size, which is nothing, any idiot programmer who can make a word processing app could have done that. Vista has its bugs, none of which I have found in my usage and I do game, a slight bit of programming, photo editing, and some productivity software.
I just get tired of the constant reproach and it has to be mentioned every time the name "Vista" is spoken of. And a lot of its dislike is from users who seem to have a moronic IQ level, attempted to install, formatted their disk(without knowing what format meant), and then said something like "it erased my stuff", I have seen it happen. Some of it comes from ppl that try it for one day, too lazy to endure the slight change in the start menu, and they couldn't grasp the fact that it ran/runs with the same 'guts'. And then they take that sling it into blogs, articles, and forums. Then after that, it is picked up by someone who thought trying the Beta and/or trying it for a day was enough, just like the other user, these users take it and repeat it twenty-thousand trillion times on every forum they have an account on. (You might see it happen) So instead of saying, "It is the junkiest junk I have ever seen", further reveal what problems that could be encountered with that case's circumstances. That applies to being pessimistic about Vista. Does it not have any pros? But, now you see how the founder has a ~$60 Billion net worth... I wish I could put his method into practice... Is this new? http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/default_ns.aspx |

Hm I differ on some of your points about Vista. True that it has a bunch of eye-candy and that it takes more resources to run, but it's also a pretty nice operating system. As long as your hardware supports it, I believe Vista is better than XP. It's probably not worth upgrading from XP on an old computer, but if you are building a new one, Vista is in my opinion better. Considering the fact that you can buy 2 gigs of ram for barely 40 dollars, Vista's minimal requirements is pretty basic. If you can address other perspectives it'll be a much better presentation.

Now then Marten, I didn't give any remarks on the "content" purely because not having tried Vista I felt not qualified to give an opinion. As you see there are others that have and it is a heated subject

Different taste, every man. Please let's not argue now, every1 use OS on a different way, and not all people like same things...
So that's why most people do not like Vista.
