Default 8600GTS and Crysis?? Help!

Just a quick question for all the experts...

Will a AMD Athlon 3800 X2 and a 512MB 8600GTS and 2 GB of RAM play Crysis at an acceptable framerate? At least playable in low/med settings? I know everyone will say trade up to a 8800GT, but I really can't spend the cash right now. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, the 8600GTS will run Crysis on a mix of low-mid settings at playable fps. But if you can't spend up to the 8800GT then get a HD3850 which costs about the same as the 8600GTS just a little bit more but it performs way better, heres a good one:

I'm sure you'll be able to get a mix of med-high setttings with decent fps.

Yeah that should play it on low settings (which still looks pretty good)

The 3850, it should be able to play it on a mix of mediums, some probably on high. But this being the 256mb card, im not sure how well it woould stack up.

The 8600 you have now, i'd say on a mix of low/med

my cousin runs it on a 8500gt, AMDx2 2.2ghz, and 2gb, with little lag, although it looks less than stunning. an 8600 should look a bit better.

Well when I had my 8600GTS I could play it on all low (at an okay framrate, no AA, 800 X 600). It couldn't handle medium settings...heres my setup:
  • Athlon X2 5000+ (2.6Ghz)
  • 2GB of RAM @ 667Mhz
  • 8600GTS 256MB
  • 250GB HDD @ 7,200RPM

However, I have a Dell so maybe so maybe it's not as good as a custom built computer (btw, I replaced the PSU, so the GPU was in fact being used to its full potential)

probably be easiest to download the crysis single player demo and see if it runs with settings that are acceptable to you with fps that is acceptable to you.

I would definitly get the ATI Radeon 3850. Much better then the 8600gt for the price.

256mb is fine. The only real difference you'll notice over the 512mb version is lower framerates when running resolutions higher then 1600x1200.
