I have two older motherboards that the AGP slots will not deliver any display to the monitor. I tried two different working AGP cards!
Has anyone ever had this problem and switched to using PCI card with any sucsess? I don't have a PCI card to try. Didn't really want to spend the money for one, if I will have to throw them out anyway. These two board would would work fine for CNC Shop computers if I could get an image on the monitors. Thanks for any info.

The old Boss 4 and 6 series Bridgeports!Do you have more then one monitor onhand? Besides dead slots on two boards with two known to be good cards seeing if the monitor is still good expecially a crt type would be first step.

Is there a chance that you would have to disable any onboard video via the BIOS before trying the AGP cards? I had to do that when installing my AGP card.

I was using a CRT monitor, and it does work fairly good. I have a half dozen Motherboards. I had them all out the other day testing them. All work on the same CRT except these two MB's. Double checked all board jumpers before testing them. One board is an ASUS A7V133 that I put together for a family member a few years back. I don't know what they were doing with it when it quit working. I will try hooking it back up and see if I can gain access to the BIOS and check settings.
The other board is a XFX MACH4 KT33-BV. This board was bought brand new. It hasn't worked form day one. Was going to send it back, but ended up waiting to long. Missed the return window. Wasn't that big of a loss! Might have to try the same with this one too. Thanks for the idea's! |

It sounds like both boards were rejects when bought. Even with the PCI/AGP set to PCI you should see a picture onscreen in order to get into the bios setup. Over the last few years there's been a lot of bad boards getting out.
Being a few years old and having worked for the Asus board that might be just the battery alone needing replacement while the XFX board was doa from the start. One old Socket A also an Asus model loved batteries. The first lasted a year and then one day nothing. The system failed to even start. A fresh battery generally a 2032 DL for Duracall and CR 2032 for Energizer is the most common number.
