I picked up a new Yamaha home theater system for my PC (instead of new PC speakers), since my Z-5300's pretty much died on me.
Anyways, I have the receiver connected to my PC using digital coax via SPDIF. I have heard that the X-Fi only outputs 2 channel audio via digital, but I also tried using my onboard sound which has optical as well as digital SPDIF. Right now it's connected to the onboard sound card with the X-Fi disabled, however on the receiver it's only showing that the Left and Right speakers are being used. I have tried several of the different modes and I am now on the Pro Logic mode. Now audio is coming out of all the speakers, and I can hear a difference between the center and L/R speakers (IE when I throw a grenade). Although I don't hear anything from behind be when I throw a grenade for instance. It seems like the surround L/R speakers are playing the same audio as the front L/R. Now heres the real kicker. When I go to the sound control panel in Vista, I can run a test on the DTS audio and the receiver shows that all the speakers are being used (FL, Center, FR, RL, RR). I haven't figured out if theres a way to run DTS audio for everything or not. So if anyone has any input, it would be great!
