Unhappy Memory usage????

Hi there,

This is my first time at a forum so bare with me.

I have a question about my computer memory and what is happening to it:

My memory currently states that I have 896 mb, when I do a system properties check, but I know that I have 1 gig installed on my system which is: E Machine 3042 system with,
Celeron D 352 running at 3.2g, 1 gig DDR2 dimm ram (was 512 but have just installed another 512 mb), ATI Radeon Express 200 graphics card and 80 gig of HD.

I also had noticed before installing my extra 512mb my memory on system check stated that I had 433mb.
What has happended to my extra 216 mb, after installing another 512mb, that I should have and why has the missing memory increased so much when before I was only missing 89mb?
I hope this makes sense???????
