Default issues detecting hard drive

I have two seagate baracudas installed. the problem is the secondary hd detection. everytime i start the computer it works fine. if i walk away for an hour and come back its not there. logging off then back up does nothing. checking hd in device manager says its ok. i always have to reboot and redetect the drive. works fine. ive gone to seagate for software and ran in the past and says no issues. would anybody have a clue why?
