Default RAM.. couple of questions

+ If I got 4GB of RAM, is it better to have 2*2GB, or 4*1GB, and why?

For example should I get:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...-136-CS&tool=3

or..

2 lots of:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...atid=8&subcat=

...for the about the same price?

+ Is this good RAM?

+ Is their a clear leading manufacturer for RAM or are they about the same?

+ Who is better for RAM, OCz, or corsair?..or about the same?

Thanks

OCZ and Corsair are both leading brands of RAM. Both come highly recommended. As for the 4x1gb or 2x2bg of RAM im not sure exactly. I like the idea of 4x1gb more personally but that is a very good question.

Generally, most motherboards don't like 4 modules because when you fill up all the slots it strains out the memory controller a lot more and the motherboard must give the DiMM's more voltage.

If you got a motherboard that has no problems with 4 modules, then 4x1GB will be easier to overclock, but will need some tweaking to keep 'em stable if you get the high-performance memory kit. If not, 2x2GB will be easier to keep stable but can't really overclock.

Well, I'm probably looking to overclock, so I'll get the four modules, if two can't be done. This is the mobo i'm planning to get:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MB-261-AS

From what I've heard it's a really good motherboard, and it's quite a recnt one too, so I'd be surprised if the memory controller couldn't handle four modules at normal operation. What d'ya reckon?

I'd skip that unless you want to SLi or something, go with the X38.

I'm thinking of getting an Nvidia 8800 ULTRA, and putting it in. The only reason I thought about getting a motherboard like that, is so that I could SLI an extra ULTRA in a few years time if apps/games are getting more demanding. (Hopefully the prices will have dropped a great deal by then too)

Again, this isn't for certain.... I'm not sure whether it'd be worth getting a single ultra which I can later SLI if needs be, or paying less for two less powerful cards, and SLI'ing them now.

I'm not sure what motherboard your reffering to. Can you post a full model name please?

besides the above points, 4x1gb would be better then 2x2gb since if one dimm went bad, you wouldn't loose as much ram and it'd be cheaper to replace.
