I am not a computer guru in the least, so I have come to this forum for the first time to ask a question. My sister-in-law was just visiting this afternoon with her kids and I needed to run out to the store, so she offered to watch my kids so that I could go. When I returned, I found her on our computer and she suddenly closed the internet explorer window that she had open. She acted suspiciously, then abruptly left with her kids. Afterwards, I looked to see that see was on my wifes logon which was very suspicious since mine was already open and the internet conneted. I noticed that she also deleted the browsing history which we have set to keep several weeks of browsing history. I am asking if there is any way to retrieve that browsing history or to see what she had looked at while on our computer. I believe that what she wanted to do was to look at my wifes browsing history and if she did I would like to be able to prove that she did. This is not the first time we have found her snooping around in our house!
Any help would be appreciated. |

I'd have to say the chances of recovering this are slim to none. If there is a way, it wouldn't be very easy. Best advice I would give is install a keylogger for the next time she comes over.

It's your sister in law and she is an adult right? she probly want to check out some adult sites while the kids is outside playing or saomething.
No need to b worry.... she souldnt do something bad to your computer like stealing important data ect.... if its adult entertainment... its fine. No need to put a keylogger..... ill be piss if I found out someone putting a keylogger on me lol. |

You can look at the browsing history that is stored in the index.dat file(s).
If the history you wish to look at is on an xp system or earlier and you use ie to browse, it is possible. This isn't deleted by simply clearing the history and temp files but you will likely get a list a mile long, probably your complete browsing history from when the pc's operating system was installed. A program you can you to crack into the index.dat file is Spider v1.1.6.0 by Ward van Wanrooij. This little application is quite hard to find these days. I have a zipped file but wouldn't know how to get it to you. |

also...don't let her use the PC again....shady antics are never good....otherwise they wouldn't be shady would they...

This fashion of file sharing is new to me. Please let me know how it goes. P.S. In the options menu you will get better results if select full hard drive scan. This little utillity will also clean these files for you. P.P.S. If you use vista right click and run as administrator then select entire hard drive scan. If you could send a copy to me it would be great. I never knew about the index.dat file and would be interested to see whats on it. My email address is "quagmondo23@gmail.com".
Thanks |

set up a monitoring program like a keylogger, you can also find programs that will take screenshots every min. or so along with logging keystrokes. then leave her alone in your house again, and keep your internet logged in, see where she goes.

If you run CCleaner regularly, your index.dat will be empty. CCleaner gets rid off of those files
