Since you want to save your old computer for your kid you can buy a new CD burner for $20. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106084

Of if you want a DVD burner, you go up to $30. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106080

it should all you need is the interface type..like PATA, which is IDE, or something like sata. Since the comp is old, i would assume its IDE orPATA. So you should be able to find plenty. Hope ur kids gets into comps lol.

take note of all the wires that's connected to your old drive.

if you new drive can connect to those wires then it's gauranteed to be compatible
