What exactly are you looking for with multiple HDDs? --RAID array? Extra storage?

There are benefits to having more than one Drive, however you decide to use it. However, you must decide whether the benefits justify the cost of purchase. I myself have two drives, but every partition on each one serves a specific purpose. To me, The cost is justified, as compared to what I do and the information I keep stored.

Running multiple hdds is no different then running one, you only get more space.
Then again if you mean Raid, that's another thing...

well basically a raid's main purpose is redundency. its so that if one hard drive goes down, you still have another one running. now some other advantages of running a raid are speed and space. you will increase the speed when your computer is searching for information. and you get more space. you will need to decide which raid to run. there is like 10 different raid setups

It's not often much faster if you are using it at home nor will it always give you more space. RAID1 uses the same amount of space you get (it mirrors the drives so they contain the exact same stuff). For it to be noticably faster you generally need to be doing specific tasks with a certain type of RAID or the difference will generally be very small

I have 4 320GB hard drives in RAID0, and although loading times don't really decrease much, the average transfer rate is much higher. I usually average between 100-120MBps when transferring movies and such.
