The linux filesystems do not need defragging and there is no messy registry to have to clean up.

If you use a router to connect to the net then you just plug the machine in and it should just work. If you connection share then I'm afraid I don't know.

Installing from a CD is the easiest way, however if you can't use the drive then:

This is a bit incorrect. There are many known exploits for Linux, but they require social engineering of some kind. Since you must authenticate to install software on a *nix machine. There have been some that have tricked users into installing malicious software. However you are safe from remote attacks unlike Windows. Viruses and the like can't propagate over a network because of this.

Run Win XP on it. All you need is a 233Mhz processor with 128MB ram, 300Mhz is recommended but your passed the processor speed. My old system run Win XP Pro with a 367Mhz processor and 192MB RAM, at one point it ran it with only 64 MB RAM.

I have xp home and surf speed are so slow.

I just burned xubuntu in a CD with nero as bottable disc.... I try putitng it on my CD drive..... as expected it dont read as my CD drive is messed up somehow.

The link that simon link about installing without using cd drive..... interesting....... but ummmm....... seems complicated.

Can I just download xubuntu in the computer im installing on and when done downloading..... I just run it straight from the computer?
