Default Two HDDs, one SATA, one IDE on same board.

Putting together a low spec PC for my brother just to store music on. He managed to get hold of an 120gb IDE drive and I have another 120gb SATA drive which I dont need. The MOBO is a SATA board. Would I be able to run the IDE drive on the same cable as the DVD/RW drive? What would I need to set the jumpers on the HDDs and the DVD drive? Cheers.

Most motherboards have a IDE slot for this type of drive. Can you provide a link for the MB? Thanks

Sorry, no link as its an old ASUS Puffer MOBO from an old HP Desktop. It only has one IDE slot so thats why I want to know if I can run the HDD on the same cable as the DVD drive as well as a SATA port for the other drive.

Yes you can. Set the DVD as primary and the HD as slave. Some say you cannot boot the OS on a slave drive, but it's worked for me in the past. Optical drive manufacturers say that the drive works better when set as a primary. Either way might work, though.

Well there you go. I would suggest getting one of those and hopefully it will not slow you down too much.
