Default Desktop and Laptop Not Sharing Files?

ok im in my dorm and i have a desktop and a router connected to it and i also have a laptop

both windows xp

last semester i was here and was able to share files/folders on both desktop and laptop...but i took my laptop home for the winter break and now i can't see shared folders on the desktop and vice versa from desktop to laptop

they'r econnected to the same network (laptop is wifi, desktop is wired, but both through same routher)

is there a network reset or something i can do wher ei can start over or what am i doing wrong

i tried sharing/unsharing files...making a new network....i can't even see the other pc in the "workgroup" thing

i use a lynksis router btw

thanks a lot appreciate it

On the router there's like a reset button on the back. Try doing that, and re-setting up everything.

Try a new workgroup, and start the "Setup a home or small office network" wizard.

ok i think i figured out whats causing it...basically i can see the desktop from my laptop in our workgroup but i can't see the laptop from my desktop in the workgroup

and even when i see the desktop in the workgroup i can't access it i just see it

anyways when i do "set up a home or office network" on the desktop and in the finishing stage it says an error has occured and could not be done

or something to that affect, but on the laptop it sets it up fine

any solutions? ideas?
