I just installed a new sata drive into my computer today and i was wondering if its at all possible to just transfer the data from my ide drive onto my sata drive to make it my primary disk, since i dont have the install cds for an operating system.

do u mean copy the oprating systum as well cos if so it will not work

you can use acronis to make an image.
then set primary device as the sata then use the acronis boot cd, then the image created dvds

yeh norton ghost will maka a full image of the ide drive including the os then you can load the image onto the new hdd.

okay i just downloaded clonezilla. my only question now is, since i partitioned my old ide hard drive, when i copy my c drive, the d drive information wont go with it right? and then afterwards, can i make an image of my d drive and mount it on my sata drive (i realize that may make some programs not work, but i just want to get everything on one disk...i can reinstall most programs)
