Default Norton - Error 5?

My parents recently got a new laptop and asked me to set it up, which included installing Norton 360 antivirus software. I installed it and it ran fine, up to a point. Once i needed to run LiveUpdate however, I ran into a problem. Every time I try to run it it starts to scan and the comes up with the message
"Failed - Error 5". Does anyone know what this is and how it can be stopped/avoided?
So far I have tried-
Reinstalling Norton from scratch
Running LiveUpdate with Windows Firewall turned off
And I've searched Symantec's website for a mention of Error 5, to no avail.

Any help please? Until this is resolved the laptop is pretty much useless, as its intended use is for emails and web browsing...

Thanks.

When does it happens exactly? As soon as you start the LiveUpdate?

Not quite, liveupdate seems to run for about a minute, and then fail.

Just to get my hopes up

That's probably a software conflict, what OS are you running?

Got a new laptop-Norton 360-pointing out on Vista.
Got some information here dunno if that's your problem but that's the only error 5 on the net. So it's gotta be it, you didn't post the whole error.

Thanks for the link, and yeah its vista - which in the short time I've used it I've grown to hate...

I'm spoiled by my MacBook.

Anyway, thanks again
