Default boot.ini location

Is it possible to change the hard drive boot.ini is on and if so how. thank you

yes, i've done it before.

first, click on any folder -> click "tools" at the top between the "favorites" and "help" tab -> scroll down and click "folder options" -> select "view" tab -> select "show hidden files and folders" -> and uncheck the two buttons for "hide extentions.." and "hide protected..." -> click OK. then open up for C drive and you should see a little faint icon that says boot.ini

So then i can just move the file. Will i need to change the boot.ini or not. What happened is i have XP on my D drive and want to clear my c drive but the boot.ini is still there.

how did you get the boot.ini file on the C if XP was installed on the D? that file should come installed whenever you get XP installed. i'm thinking the D drive already has boot.ini on it, but there is a duplicate on your C drive. if that's the case, just delete it off the C, but you might want to make sure you already have one on your D. without that file, i don't think you can fully boot so you probably already have one on your D
