this is probably a simple fix but head is firmly up backside at the moment with other issues
I have a dell inspiron 6000 with built in wireless here. My brother has been using it at his for sometime and connecting to sky broadband via a Netgear DG834G wireless router that they provided. He managed to knock the router off the shelf damaging it and the laptop couldnt pick up wireless. Sky sent out a new one but in the meantime he was connecting via a wired connection. Since getting the new one he has been trying to get the wireless setup but to no avail. I have since been round to his and cant get it sorted either, it seems to suggest its connected as windows reports excellent strength and 54MBPS. However on opening internet explorer it cannot display any pages. Almost as if the computer is connected to router but router not to internet. So I have brought it back here to try and connect to mine but it still has the same problem. It says its connected to my router but I cannot access the internet on the laptop. I know the router is connected to the internet fine as im posting via my computer now using the same wireless connection. Any ideas what the issue could be?

on a side note the latop is unable to access the router settings by putting in the ip address of 192.168.0.1
It seems to suggest that although it is saying its connected to the router its not quite there

I'd start off by conecting to the router via ethernet using DHCP (start - control panel - network connection. right click ethernet icon - properties. under "this connection uses the following settings:" select 'TCP/IP' and click properties this should tell you if you're using DHCP. It should say "obtain IP address automatically" Check this (this may solve your problem) but check by going to command prompt and type ipconfig, This will tell you the IP adress of your router. enter this IP address into IE and see if it connects. If this doesn't work post back.
