Red face What os or programs do i need for using C++, pico, g++ etc...

My University uses Unix and we are learning the C++ language. We are using pico to edit, and g++ to compile it.

I don't like going to the school all the time and using their computers, i'd like to do it on mine, what programs or os do i need?

Would Linux work? And what else?
