If you are going to spend a couple hundred on an old emac, just get a mini instead. It will have an intel processor and you can use your current monitor, and its only a couple hundred dollars more. This way you can run windows and windows apps via virtual machines if you need to.

Or even buy a used Mini off of ebay.

If I didn't hate macs I would say get the mac. Since I hate macs, however, I would build a super budget PC for $200 (I think it can be done).

Since you probably have no interest in that, go with whichever machine you think will serve you best or whichever OS you prefer. Just keep in mind the advantages/disadvantages of each system. (Speed, compatibility, so on...)
