Default Laptop Build

Is it possible to build a laptop? It would be an interesting project.

*Extremely* difficult/time consuming/expensive. Finding components with the correct port configuration to line up with the casing also needs to be carefully monitored, unless you buy them both together, in which case...why not just by a complete system.

Which is why I've thought of that and decided to probably never try it unless absolutely necessary.

If I'm ever looking for a good laptop at a steal price, I check e-bay for the newer ones that are broken, with an easy fix. (no Hard Drive, No ram, cracked LCD, faulty keyboard, etc.). After taking apart an older HP Omnibook 6000, I realized it isn't that hard to disassemble and reassemble a laptop.

I reassembled a laptop once and it worked, I just thought it would be as easy as that.

Well, reassembling and direct-builds are a bit different. Reassembling is simply taking pieces known to be compatible with each other and placing them into the chasis in order. A direct-build would require lots of research, money, and time (not to mention a decent amount chasis fabrication, too, most likely) to pull off. It's nothing at all like building a desktop.

So, for a person who doesn't have an income, has no patients and has very little time, its probably not the best idea. Thanks

Pretty much, yes I have the patience, and know-how, and I *still* wouldn't take on a project like that.

They do make barebone kits where you add in the CPU, hard drive, and memory in yourself.
