Default computer locking up!!!

I just bought a new computer (it has 2 nvidia gforce 8500 512mb video cards, 2 gb of dual channal memmory, an asus p5n-e motherboard, a 600 watt power supply, and it is running windows media center sp2) but when I try to play a game like call of duty 4 it will play fine without glitching for about 5 miniuts thin lock up, if I take the cover off the case of it will play for about 15 minutes then lock up. I assume it is gitting to hot but the cpu temp reading on the front of the computer only reaches about 98 degrese F and the hdd reading reaches about 94 degrese F(my friend told me it was locking up because the hard drive is too hot but I think he is wrong), but the heat sink on the north brige is REALLY hot, could this cause it to lock up?

Your computer is overheating. Refund it while you can. It's junk. From the overall build quality to the hardware itself.

Anyway...

To the OP, often, the temp displays on computer cases can be off. I'd recommend downloading SpeedFan or CoreTemp (both free, do a search) and getting your temps from there. If it's a heat issue, it will be much easier to pinpoint using either of those programs.

While the HDD is hot, it's still within operating ranges. It could be a problem, but there are other things to look at first. I'd open the case and make sure all connectors are firmly attached, and all fans are spinning. If you have a SmartFan setting in BIOS, disable it.

Does your system only lock up when playing games? If so, I'd definitely try to troubleshoot your GPU's.
