Question Noisy hot laptops

I'm sort of in the market for a new laptop. I don't absolutely need to buy one, but nonetheless I'm interested in possibly getting a tablet style laptop. I really don't need the tablet capability... it's the small size that is appealing to me.

Candidates have included the Toshiba Portege M700, Fujitsu Lifebook T4215, and the HP Pavilion tx2000z. Right now, I'm leaning toward the HP.

Anyway, my question is this... are there any laptops (particularly tablet style ones) that have a reputation for generating less heat and fan noise?

My wife has a HP tx1000, and I have noticed that it seems to get rather hot and noisy.

In keeping with the guidance in the sticky for this forum...

1. budget. I'd like to keep this purchase under/around $1,500

2. purpose. I use computers mostly to do e-mail, web browsing, downloading my digital camera, word processing and listening to the radio (iTunes). I like portability, reliability and simplicity.

Note: Some of this is a repost from another forum. I posted the first part of this in a "tech help" oriented forum some time ago. Nobody responded, because I guess it wasn't really within the scope of that forum. If you saw this post there, I apologize for the rehash.

Would you be looking for a PC, or a mac?

It's funny you should ask that, because I flip flop on the question. Right now, I'm giving the MacBook serious consideration.

On the plus side...

1) It would provide me something different than what I already have. Between me, my wife, and my kids, we already have eight laptops (about half are in severe to marginal states of disrepair), plus a desktop. All are PCs.

2) From what I understand, they're less prone to viruses; and maybe less prone to crashing (?).

3) I'd rather send my money to California than Texas (home of Dell). It's a Red State, Blue State thing.

On the minus side...

1) I have no experience with Macs.

2) Didn't Apple recently take a beating in the recent stock market angst? Was it bad enough to have a long term impact on the company?

3) I think the wireless adapter has to be plugged in, versus being built-in like on all modern PC laptops

4) Will it be able to link into my existing wireless router, and send things to the printer through the Linksys? (I think so)

5) I could be wrong, but I don't think Macs are any better when it comes to running hot.

6) The MacBook features a 13" screen. I was hoping to come up with something that was around 12".

7) If I like the Mac, will I be dooming myself to eventually wanting a $3K MacBook Air?

I know what you mean. My sister just bougt a Mac book, and she loves it. Easy to use, pretty easy to learn. She paid like $1300 for it with the student discount. I recived her old sony vaio for free. It still works good, does everthing I need it to do.
