Default Western Digital external drive

Went out to buy a SATA 500gb drive today. In the shop I noticed the equivalent external drive was only £5 more, so I though 'what the hell, it'll be fine, and it'll be portable so I can take my work into uni'. It was western digital, and I've had huge problems with them in the past, but everyone on here seems to think god himself makes them these days, so against my better judgement I went for it.

Get back, plugged it in in OSX, it appears, it's quiet, I'm happy. I immediately copy over around 80gb of audio I'm working with, it takes its time but gets there after a bit. I then restart into windows just to check if it appears in both OS's, and it does. Restart back into OSX, no drive. Wait a bit, still no drive. Restart computer, no drive. Then I notice it's clicking away quietly. Broken already. Now following original plan of SATA seagate drive, that will work for 5 years

So, Western Digital external drive, total working time? 3 hours. ****ing pathetic
