Default New techs

So I built my computer in August. Since then I've disregarded all of the new releases and developments for desktops. Can anyone briefly summarize the main advancements/inform me as to what I should consider in terms of upgrades in the near future? I've tried to do some research on my own, but I haven't seen anything too different, besides the 45nm thing which I'm still not clear on. Thanks!

Are you looking for whats new with software or hardware? With hardware, Intel recently released their new line of 45nm dual-core processors, and they will soon release their 45nm quad-core processors (which help reduce heat, thereby run cooler). ATI released their 3870 X2 which is basically two 3870's in one. Vista SP1 is coming very shortly, as well as XP SP3.

From what I've been hearing, Vista SP1 should be coming out around mid-March.
