Default I need some advice

Ok, I am 42 years old married with two children own a business in Oregon.
I love to fish and hunt mushrooms and most anything else outdoors. And as my name might indicate not so good when it comes to computers.

I need a new computer for my home. I need one that is ready to go, plug and play if you will. The family uses the computer for surfing and emails and ipods and I use it for gaming. Games like Call Of Duty and Halo. would also like a 24" monitor. I have about 2k for this give or take.

First of I know you must get pounded with this type of question. second thank you for taking the time to read this. If I could return the favor of knowledge I would but sadly I cant. I have been looking at the Dell's If i could piece one together I would but I cant so I wont.

Thank you for your time, Troy from Oregon

Well most people will tell you to build your own...although obviously if you don't know how, then that's going to be a problem.

As for brands...I don't know who to recommend...Dell or HP would be my top two recommendations.

So Halo and cod are easy to run games since there has been 3 more games in the series released since cod. Since your Computer " stupid " i would go with a prebuild computer. And For prebuilt computers i would go with a dell. http://www.dell.com/content/products...=19&l=en&s=dhs find one that fancys you and we could help suggest one. The XPS series are the gaming destops btw. And do you just walk around and find mushrooms? like? what you walk for km and km fine a mushroom and take it home? sounds silly.... lol well might be fun.

If you have 2K I would say build it your self. About 1K for the system and the rest can go into monitor. you can get darn big one too.

But if you don't know how than I would say go with a prebuild system from HP. For get about Dell.

I'll build you a rig. I live in Sacramento. By this time next week, you can have a fully functioning gaming rig at your doorstep. If you're interested, email me. I'll give you all the details. You don't need to spend $2,000.

If you want an OEM machine, configure a Dell XPS, or, take a look at the HP Blackbird 002.

BluePlum, What state do you live in? I look for mushrooms almost year around. Mostly morels, chterells, king bolets, chicken of the woods, oysters and Oregon white truffles. There are a few more I look for. I like it because its just relaxing to walk in the woods looking for "treasure" It has taken many years to find area's and pin point the time's that they grow and different elevations also.

Please keep the ideas coming. I will e-mail mep916 today. Maybe I just need to buy a book and learn to do it myself???

I have all of the COD games, I also wanted to say this isn't just a gaming computer, it needs to work for the Wife also. Reliability is huge for me also.

Thank you very much for the info so far, take care, Troy

Microcenters sell a house brand called powerspec, which re generically built and at good price points. If you were to buy pre build I would recommend one of those. I used to work on those a lot back in the day and they were very good machines for your dollar.

Since they are generically built as well you don't get all that crappy bloated preinstalled software package either. Also, you can fit any retail computer part in them.

Or, if gaming were not a huge issue, I would say just get a Mac since they are easily, reliable, and solid. However, since you want to game, and gaming is still limited I would suggest you get a PC.

Check out your local microcenter for a powerspec computer. Perhaps buy one of those and upgrade a few parts on your own to get a feel for how they work, then next time build your own.

1) Do not buy from Prebuilt companies
2) NEVER buy from eBay
3) Go custom because you won't regret it.
